Initially drawn to cedar for its fine grain, he later embraced soapstone, captivated by its tactile and expressive potential. His refined carvings transform raw stone and wood into fluid, elegant figures—most often birds and animals—demonstrating an enduring harmony between natural material and artistic precision. Raymond Dubois lives in Ottawa. While still a student, he made his first attempts at sculpture, using mostly cedar, a wood whose refined grain is reflected in his work in an unlimited way.

In 1970 he was introduced to soapstone, a material that challenged his imagination and fascinated him. Throughout his life, he has discovered the joy of transforming rough pieces of stone and wood into graceful and refined works of art.

His sculptures in various styles show a penchant for the elegant forms of birds and animals.
